| G Sweet Biography / Timeline
Dj Ativan Online Remixes – 1998 - 1999 When I first got on the net in 1998, this was the first net Dj site I found. Ativan would put up mp3's of his great mixes and I would log in every week to listen A truly talented Dj who's mixes are on par with DJMC and Funkymix. His mixes gave me the idea that perhaps I could do the same, so I started my remixing copying Ativan's style before i developed my own style.
G Sweet Online Remixes – 1999
The first of many crap website's I started to promote my own material, this might still be online on my old ISP servers. The mixes coming from this website where Naughty By Nature – Jamboree, Five – If Your Getting Down and Christina – Genie in a Bottle, all released prior to URG.
DJ008 / Dancecity – 1998 - 2000
In 1998 I was visiting a website run by a nice Chinese American DJ called 008 who would give away free downloads of house tracks and featured mixes by himself. He then opened up his website for mix submissions from other DJ's to submit there mixes too, The best Dj's on this site were Raymix and also Ativan, Ativan was also guest reviewer and managed the quality control to what actually got onto the site. Thankfully before the site's demise I had a few mixes featured on the site and made the websites best of 1999 Megamix. Sadly I don't know what happened to the site or why the plug was pulled, neither do I know the whereabouts of DJ008. I read that it went underground but i didnt go underground with it! The old site is actually here http://www.geocities.com/schlos1225/ , its a dead duck of a website that hasn't been updated in 8 years but this is DJ008 Dancecity's website I visite and you can browse it, my profile is also there http://www.geocities.com/schlos1225/dj-info/dj-g-sweet.html?200822 NICE PHOTO :-)
DJ Raymix 1999 - 2005 A great Dj who was a major part of Dancecity/008 and also URG, I didn't aspire to be like Raymix but I loved listening to his work as it was also different, mainly disco influenced sampled stuff. I lost touch with his work in 2005, I think he may have quit the scene but his site was one of the best. Doing a recent google search doesn't bring up much on his whereabouts.
URG – The United Remixers Guild 1999 – 2001 (Version 1) Ativan started a remix group back in 1999, he put out a rolecall on his website for 4 Dj's to join him in creating a remix group that would put out releases once a month, after copying his stuff for a little bit and being featured on Dancecity, I put myself first in the list to join the group. The Dj's involved where Ativan, Myself, Spam, Vinny D and Dj Amanda. This seems such a long time ago now! We would do this for 2 years, I think we put out some pretty decent stuff in this time.
Double Top - It's a Bullseye! ( 2001 ) A new member of URG in 2001 Barcode had the idea of recreating a dance version of the bulleyes TV theme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullseye_%28UK_game_show%29), he gave me the elements to play with and create a remix for him. I came up with a UK Garage version of the mix with a thumping bassline, crowd noises and big breakdown's. Barcode was lucky enough to actually get Tony Green on the track, for those who don't know, Tony Green was the voice of the Bullseye TV show in the UK. The remix was actually performed in clubs by Tony Green as a PA, sadly the buzz on the track never picked up but I had lots of fun with making this and following its journey along with Barcode and the highlight was that it was played once on the radio by Chris Moyles, I think it was my remix that was played but I never ever heard a clip of this. Kutmaster Spaz - Under Construction ( 2001 )
Krazy Kuts came onto URG asking for volunteers to remix tracks from the latest Kutmaster Spaz album Spin City (http://www.djspaz.com who is a known DJ in Hawaii) Sadly there was only one or two acapella's and remixers had to work from the whole track. I remixed Sex On The Beach in a garage style and also a track called Jibba Jabay which i beefed up, the album was compiled and co-produced by Krazy Kuts but the remix album was never released by the label.
Sweet Ass Krazy Megamixes Part 1 to 4 ( 2001 – 2004 )
The Krazy Ass Megamixes where a lot of fun, the first two mixes where completed by myself and Krazy Kuts. The theme was a freestyle mix that was open to mixing anything in the mix without limits, total freedom given to both Dj's to put whatever the hell they wanted in the mix without a theme. The name was given to the mix by Dj Spam, I believe that is right J the first mix in 2001 was only supposed to be a 10 minutes thing but after the first 10 minutes, we thought we were just warming up… so we decided to do two more sections to the mix, after 30 minutes… I said to Krazy, what the hell lets go 60…. Do we do, we just fell short of 60 minutes but I was dam proud of what we did. Part 2 was completed the following year in 2002, this is the best mix out of the 4 mixes completed, just dam amazing what we did and I can listen to this without ever getting bored. Sadly I did not keep the tracklistings for any of these mixes. Part 3 in 2003 brought Ativan in the mix, Part 4 in 2004 brought in Shatterstar and Ativan due to myself and Krazy not having a lot of time to churn out an hour, all of these mixes where great. URG – The United Remixers Guild 2001 to 2002 (Version 2)
Ativan handed the site to me in 2001 due to family/work commitments, I think I did a pretty decent job of updating the site, we brought aboard Krazy Kuts, Miguel, Stevie Cut It Up D, Naughty Boy, Raymix, K Bee, Barcode, 707 in different reincarnations of the URG team throughout this time running competitions for members to join the URG team or being selected through reputation. This was a fun time and so much great output came with the members of URG.
Krazy Kuts & Shatterstar (2001 to Present) These two guys are like my partners in crime, I created the Drunken Master mixes and the Krazy Ass megamixes with these guys. I love working with them and if they wanted too, I will still work with them today. So special mention to them both and thanks for making some of the greatest mix memories with me because Krazy Ass 2 and Drunken Master 1 are mixes I could listen too over and over, especially on long plane trips :-)
Christina Vs Diana Ross on QTV, KISS TV, KISS FM ( 2002 - 2003 ) No question about it if I like it or not, this will always be my most famous mix. This was completed December 2002 in about 10 minutes, using an instrumental of a pretty unknown track that sampled upside down by Diana Ross. I took the instrumental and whacked Christina's vocals on top, yes 10 minutes was all it took to create the most well known mix I've done. This was picked up by Q Mix when the bootleg scene was HOT in 2003, along with about 20 other mixes doing the rounds on the scene at the time, all of these mixes where put to the music videos and show on Q-TV and KISS TV all of 2003. Sadly this was pretty much it, the whole bootleg thing was a fad summer 2003… luckily a fad I was involved with! I did two more versions of this mix, a 12" mix completed in 2004 just to give the mix a little more life, then in 2006 I did a dance version but that wasn't as sucessful. URG – The United Remixers Guild 2003 – 2006 (Version 3)
As official members of the team started to give less and less input into URG, I opened up the site to the visitors and wannabe remixers to submit there work and remixes to me, I then went through the submissions then I would put up the best mixes onto the website for that week. This brought in great talent to the site, including Real One, Echo N Stepz, Supafly, Shatterstar, Friction, MXR and lots of great charactors such as Jimmy M. We had a lot of fun and the site was just open and buzzing with talent, updating every week, this was a really fun time in the site's history.
Beasite Boys, Eminem, Movie, Jay Z, Pop Diva's Remix Albums ( 2005 – 2006 ) A few albums came out from URG with some involvement from its 'sister' site Dj Mix Contest, the albums came out for Jay Z, Eminem and Beastie Boys. The movie album was based on the theme of sampling movie soundtracks and including samples from the films, the result was interesting but a little unfulfilling. The best album had to be the Beastie Boys album, full of fun varied mixes.
Drunken Master Megamixes 2005 – 2007 I did two drunken master megamixes, both with Shatterstar, it gave us both a chance to flex our skills and mix anything we like into the mix. The mixes where given an Asian worldwide feel to them, mixing in Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese, Korean tracks. Both Dj's given creative freedom and also trust in each other to create the best mix possible. I would say that mix 1 has the edge over 2 but both are really really great mixes with some great moments. The Drunken Master mixing technique can be best described as a plethora of worldwide music that mish mashes Urban flavas from US, Mexico, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, China and India and also the odd surprise of a country track or an old school classic. This is the mixology technique created by Shatterstar and G Sweet and is known as the Drunken Mix Style G Sweet and Shatterstar - Drunken Master Mix Part 1 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IKGOYQVF G Sweet and Shatterstar - Drunken Master Mix Part 2 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UPV5M20N
Eminem Vs Good Bad Ugly on XM Satellite Radio.( 2007 ) Opie and Anthony (http://www.opieandanthony.com) requested listeners to remix there theme tune to the show. Now the theme tune is Ecstasy of Gold from the film the Good the Bad and the Ugly. What I did was made a remix sampling Ecstasy of Gold and putting Eminem vocals on top, I submitted it and the producer of the O&A show loved it and put it on air the next day. Sadly the mix was bad and ugly… the response from the listener's was the same, they hated it, now i hate it BUT Still the mix was played once to over 1 million listeners on XM Satellite Radio channel 202 in 2007 which is something to brag about at least! The End of a sucessful year, I'll admit my youtube account get's more hits then my website but thats all good, my youtube videos have been watched 84,861 times this year. This is due to the fact that I took my remixing into Korean music. It was a great year for Korean music, they really had a great year of good productions and lots of wonderful, colourful and brilliant pop music being made. I could not resist remixing the beautiful artists of Korea.
I will continue to do what I do in 2010, please visit the site as much as you can. I will always try to do something interesting with my remixing.
